The mission of the Morehead and Rowan County Economic Development Council, Inc. (EDC) is to coordinate all aspects of local economic growth. We serve the region by providing first class industrial properties at which businesses may develop and prosper.

Rowan County is home to one of a select few parks designated by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development as a Regional Business/Industrial Park. The MMRC, a 509 acre park offers Class A-1 industrial property. The MMRC, located one mile from Interstate 64 offers level, flood-free acreage with truck accessibility and industrial infrastructure ready for developments of most sizes.

Another exciting option for expansion is the 64 acre business and aviation park located 1.5 miles from I-64 adjacent to the new Morehead-Rowan County Clyde A. Thomas Airport. The airport features a 5,500 foot general aviation runway and T-hanger rentals. This new property is ready for development and is a perfect location for aviation-related businesses.

The concept of Area Development Districts (ADDs) originated in Kentucky in the early 1960s with the establishment of Area Development Councils. These Councils were organized in all counties and ultimately became the model for Area Development authorization in landmark federal acts such as the Appalachian Regional Development Act led by Kentuckian John Whisman and the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965. The fifteen Area Development Districts were formed during the period that followed, 1966 to 1972.

The mission of the ADDs is basic: To bring local civic and governmental leaders together to accomplish major objectives and take advantage of opportunities which cannot be achieved or realized by those governments acting alone.

The Area Development Districts serve as forums, clearinghouses, technical centers, and as conveners for the region.

The Gateway Area Development District serves the counties of Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, and Rowan.
